Cinema Refocused

The Cinescope is an interactive story telling device that allows a storyteller to re_location and re_order the narrative fragments of a story. The scenario ring allows the storyteller to cycle through different scenarios, re ordering them as they choose. These narrative bits are displayed over a real time, live feed from a web camera. The Cinescope can be used to create a new narrative language that will give each storyteller and their audience a way of creating a never repeating, always evolving narrative.

Networked security and surveillance systems call into question privacy, authority, issues of control, and chain of command.  What happens when these security systems are redesigned to have animistic behaviors that respond to their environment in a way that engages those being surveilled? The aim of this project was to question the roles of authority in controlled systems and critique the current modes of surveillance that stimulate passive and active engagement.
